Using alternative treatments to treat DCIS

Second (or third) Opinion – blog post 9 🌸

On Wednesday I was at the hospital and met my new consultant, Mr Kenny Elder! 🥳

He was a breath of fresh air after the last two.

Unlike my original consultant Victoria Webber, who refused to examine me in a position where she could feel my lump , he said he was happy to examine me hanging from the ceiling if I wanted him to.

He said initially that the lump may just be dense breast tissue, but when I told him it’s getting smaller, he said that it probably wasn’t breast tissue in that case.

He felt it and explained that it’s really rare to have a palpable lump with DCIS, but it seems having an area as big as mine is unusual as well. What can I say, I’m unusual! It seems to be a theme in my life 😆

He asked me about the treatments I’m doing. I hadn’t shared any of that with the other consultants I’d seen, but I felt more comfortable with him so I told him what I was doing, and was surprised to hear he has another patient who is using methylene blue! 💙

We discussed the treatments and diet and he was open minded to a degree, and we agreed to disagree on some things.

We talked about scans and I told him my concerns about the gadolinium dye used in the MRI’s, so we agreed on an ultrasound.

We cancelled the scheduled MRI and appointment with my previous consultant and he’s making a new appointment with him and an ultrasound around the end of next month.

I left feeling supported, and much better about everything 🥰

He said that if the scan shows no change or things are getting worse, he will be trying to persuade me to have surgery.

But my lump feels half the size it was when I started, which I’m sure will be obvious on the scan, so I will just keep doing what I’m doing until it’s gone!
