This little cabin was my sanctuary for three blissful days and nights last week.
Its owner Laure Dobbie, lost her brother to leukaemia when she was a teenager, and the sick kids gave them a family holiday before he died. Ever since then she has dreamed of being able to help people who are going through cancer treatment.
This little cabin was originally a church, hence the stained glass windows, built around 1850.
Its only heating is a wood burning stove, so it felt like I was stepping back in time. When I left home at sixteen and moved in with my boyfriend, we lived in a little farm cottage and would wake up freezing in the morning and light the fire 🔥
The incredibly comfy and cosy bed is up a ladder in the loft, which I had to carry the dogs up each night and block the opening so they didn’t fall out and break their legs! Fun and games!
In the morning we would walk in the woods behind the cabin, which was full of badger sets and lots of wildlife.
In the afternoon we explored further afield around Abbey St Bathans and found several wild swimming spots along the rivers.

I let go of a lot of emotional stuff while I was there. It had been a stressful week as my daughter’s dad had a heart attack (aged 42) a few days previously, which was a shock for everyone. I’m praying it was the wake up call he needed to stop smoking and start living a healthier lifestyle.
Tomorrow I go into hospital. I’ll be in surgery most of Thursday. I’ll be sure to post some gruesome pics when I’m up and about. I imagine I’m gonna be doped up to the eyeballs on painkillers for a good few days.
I’ll be blogging about my mastectomy in The Leither, which I hope might help anyone else who may be going through something similar.
Life’s adventure continues!
